Keung Hoi Ling

I Crushed it. It was an Egg.” 曾於牛吉Day (牛吉地)、FIRST Creative Platform (西九文化區:自由舞) 、Open Dance Platform (多空間), Sai Dance Festival (日本) 及2026風乎舞雩國際舞蹈匯演《HER》 (台灣)作階段性呈現。 Keung Hoi Ling has studied in the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Northern School Contemporary Dance and Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance. She then joined Unlock Dancing Plaza as a full-time resident artist, meanwhile developing her second solo “I saw a Ping-Pong. I Crushed it. It was an Egg” and premiered at the “SPOTLIGHT: A Season of Performing Arts 2025 - Infinite Extension”. In recent years, Hoi-Ling has explored how the integration of bodily autonomy, identity, and decolonial resistance can—through performance creation—guide audiences to transcend established narrative frameworks and access obscured histories and embodied memories. This inquiry stems from a critical reflection on performance as social action, alongside a persistent questioning of the implicit connections within lived experience. It leads to her current research project “Call Me By My Name” - an intimate choreographic exploration of identity, cultural legacy, and self-reclamation through the lens of naming. This work interrogates belonging and power, culminating in the reclaiming of her Chinese name as decolonial defiance and spiritual homecoming. Through live performance, it seeks to transform inherited narratives into a sacred act of self-naming. The work has been presented work-in-progresses since 2025; in Ngau Gaat Day (Ngau4 Gat1 Dei6), FIRST Creative Platform (West Kowloon District: Freespace Dance), Open Dance Platform (Y-space) , Sai Dance Festival (Japan) and 2026 Feng Dance International Gala 《Her》 (Taiwan).

"Call Me By My Name" is an intimate choreographic exploration of identity, cultural legacy, and self-reclamation through the lens of naming. This work interrogates belonging and power, culminating in the reclaiming of her Chinese name as decolonial defiance and spiritual homecoming. Through live performance, it seeks to transform inherited narratives into a sacred act of self-naming. This time, an excerpt from "Call Me By My Name" — "Ling Ling" — will be performed. Inspired by her parents' ingenious act of resistance in protecting their daughter by "using the spear of tradition against the shield of tradition," Hoi-Ling invited her mother to mount the Chinese opera plumes represented by "Ling" onto her father's bicycle helmet — a symbol of her parents' guardianship over her, and at once a ritual of complete empowerment for "Hoi-Ling."
