The 2002 Distinguished Achievement Award is awarded to the three-time recipient of the Hong Kong Dance Awards, the illustrious Hong Kong Choreographer, Helen Lai, whose creations throughout the year and over the years have held a mirror to Hong Kong and allowed us to see ourselves, revealing our joys and sorrows, our hopes and fears, our culture, our history, our here and now, and our dreams for a brighter tomorrow.

The Hong Kong Dance Award 2002 is awarded to the City Contemporary Dance Company dancer Chan Yi-jing, for his masterful dancing of roles in October Red, Show Your Colours and Boy's Story.

The Hong Kong Dance Award 2002 is awarded to the choreographer, Ong Yong-lock, for his fusion of classical ballet with modern themes and devises in his choreography of 4 In for Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts School of Dance ballet students in its production of New Moves.

The Hong Kong Dance Award 2002 is awarded to the lighting designer, Jo Phoa, for her sculptural rendering through light of the City Contemporary Dance Company's production of Six Memos for a New Millennium.

The Hong Kong Dance Award 2002 is awarded to the Hong Kong Ballet dancer Carlo Pacis, for his technical artistry and the depth of his dramatic reading of roles danced during the year.
