Hong Kong Dance Alliance announces the 2nd Collaborative Creative Lab from 4 to 22 December. Aimed at fostering research and development capabilities for dance and performing artists, through three weeks of intensive collaborative research workshops, the Lab seeks to encourage interdependent and multi-lateral learning strategies in the creative process. The sharing and presentation session will be held in the last session of the project.

Nederlands Dans Theatre (NDT) Workshop for Professional Dance Artists

NDT WORKSHOP FOR PROFESSIONAL DANCE ARTISTS

Led by NDT1 dancer Lydia Bustindy, a workshop for professional dance artists, which based on In the Event choreographed by Crystal Pite, will be held on 8 Nov.

 

 

Nederlands Dans Theatre (NDT)

Found in 1959 by Benjamin Harkarvy, Aart Verstegen and Carel Birnie in cooperation with eighteen dancers from Het Nationale Ballet, NDT was renowned in the modern dance field for its nonconformist, avant-garde productions. The company has built a rich repertoire of 600 works by renowned choreographers such as Jiří Kylián, Hans van Manen and Sol León. NDT now under the artistic guidance of Paul Lightfoot, consists of 28 dancers between 24 and 41 years old of different countries, acknowledged for their astonishing technique and expression.

Hong Kong Dance Alliance strives to foster dance and performing artists’ research and development capabilities by providing a platform to encourage inter-dependent and interactive learning strategies in the creative process and research; to enhance artistic standards; and, to support artistic development. Cross-media artist, Dick Wong, has been invited to be the Facilitator and Curator of a three-week Collaborative Creative Lab. A Work-in-progress Showing will be held in the last session for participants to share their research outcomes.

1st & 2nd Week: 1.9-13; 16-20 (Mon - Fri) 10am-2pm

Research & Exploration – Thematic sharing sessions to explore research directions in groups

3rd Week: 2.6-10 (Mon - Fri) 10am-6pm, any 4 hours a day

Group Research – Smaller group collaborative discussion and development to further work on the research targets and prepare for the last showing

Work-in-progress Showing: 2.10 (Fri) 3-5pm

*19th Hong Kong Dance Awards Fellowship

Three participants will be selected for a Hong Kong Dance Awards Fellowship to further develop their works and perform on stage at the Hong Kong Dance Awards Presentation.

Dance Appreciation & Criticism Writing Project 2016

Dance Enhance

 

Learn to appreciate and analyze dance!

Watch performances and interact with dancers and choreographers. Write reviews, get feedback from professional critics and have the chance to see your work published.

 

Appreciating Dance

l   Participants will attend 4 interactive lectures, including live demonstrations by dancers; 4 productions in those genres by local dance companies; a rehearsal of a new production, including Q&A with the choreographer, to help understand the process of creating dance.

 

Analyzing Dance

l   Participants will take part in discussion sessions led by professional dance critics after each performance; a workshop to review how “we see what we want to see” and a dance workshop conducted by a leading local choreographer to learn about dance as a language and experience movement and the process of creating movement.

 

Writing About Dance

l   Participants will write reviews of the productions they attend and will receive written feedback on their work from mentors who are professional dance critics; selected work will be published in dance journal/hk.
