Since 1999, the Hong Kong Dance Awards have celebrated outstanding achievements in the local dance field and recognized artists and organizations for their contribution to the development of dance in Hong Kong. Those honoured in the past include companies such as City Contemporary Dance Company, Hong Kong Ballet, Hong Kong Dance Company, Unlock Dancing Plaza and Passoverdance and choreographers such as Helen Lai, Mui Cheuk-yin and Yuri Ng. Previous recipients of the Distinguished Achievement Award include Daniel Yeung and Anna Cheng .

Shortlisted Nominations

The 24th Dance Awards celebrate a welcome return to the stage by local productions in 2022 (despite some theatre closures early in the year) after the Covid 19 pandemic. The exceptional standard of work in 2022 reflects how inspired our dance artists have been by being able to get back to performing live and connecting with the audience directly again after such a long hiatus.

A total of over 48 outstanding nominations have been shortlisted under 16 award categories and showcase not only the talent but also the range of the local dance sector, encompassing a variety of genres and recognizing work from small groups and newly emergent artists alongside more established ones.

The shortlists attached were determined by a secret ballot of expert panelists held after reviewing all the nominations received. A final ballot will be conducted in the coming weeks to decide the Awards with an expanded jury including all members of the HKDA Executive Committee.  Award recipients will be announced during the 24th Hong Kong Dance Awards Presentation & Gala Performance.
