Shirley Loong Takes Up The Post of Executive Director of Hong Kong Dance Alliance

2022.3.14

The Hong Kong Dance Alliance is delighted to announce that Shirley Loong has accepted our invitation to join the administrative team in the newly-created post of Executive Director, with effect from 10 March 2022. She will therefore step down from her current role as Chairperson and will be succeeded by Allen Lam, whose current role as Vice-Chairperson will be taken by Angela Hang.

The creation of the Executive Director position is the result of careful deliberation by the entire Executive Committee, aimed at responding to the Alliance’s need for a capable, senior level executive and decision-maker with a thorough understanding of the dance industry to head the administrative team. The worldwide pandemic has also prompted the Alliance to expedite this organizational restructuring in order to adapt swiftly to the fast-changing situation of the dance sectors both at home and abroad.

Ms Loong has been active in the local dance scene for many years, with a successful career spanning multiple roles from dancer, ballet teacher, dance educator, arts administrator and producer to her newly acquired qualification as an international accredited professional mediator, which led her to head the Performing Arts Profession International Mediation Committee. During her tenure as Chairperson, Ms Loong set a clear direction for the development of the Alliance, which is approaching its 30th anniversary in 2025. Allen Lam says, ‘We are delighted that Shirley has agreed to take on this new role. Her vast experience in the Hong Kong dance sector and in particular within the Alliance will help to make sure that expert advice can be turned into action effectively.’

‘I very much look forward to working closely with our new Chairperson, Allen Lam and Vice Chairperson, Angela Hang,’ says Ms Loong. ‘While working to accomplish the Alliance’s mission and vision, together we'll strive to broaden and strengthen our connection with stakeholders, funders and members of the Alliance, as well as the local and global dance communities.’
