23rd Hong Kong Dance Awards 2022

- Shortlisted Nominations Announced

- Two Lifetime Achievement Awards to be presented

14 February 2022 – Hong Kong Dance Alliance (HKDA) is delighted to announce the shortlisted nominations for the 23rd Hong Kong Dance Awards and the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to two distinguished members of the dance community: Professor Shen Shir Ming and Ms Tania Tang.

Since 1999, the Hong Kong Dance Awards have celebrated outstanding achievements in the local dance field and recognized artists and organizations for their contribution to the development of dance in Hong Kong. Those honoured in the past include companies such as City Contemporary Dance Company, Hong Kong Ballet, Hong Kong Dance Company, Unlock Dancing Plaza and Passoverdance and choreographers such as Helen Lai, Xing Liang and Yuri Ng. Among previous recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award are Ringo Chan and Dr Tom Brown.

Shortlisted Nominations

For the 23rd Dance Awards, instead of the usual calendar year, the eligibility period for nominations ran from January 2020 to December 2021; this is because very few productions were staged in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A new category, Online Production, has been introduced to reflect the strong trend towards online work and the excellence of such work being created in Hong Kong.

A total of over 50 outstanding nominations have been shortlisted under 15 award categories (please see below full list). The shortlists were determined by a ballot of expert panelists held after reviewing all the nominations received this year. A final ballot will be conducted in the coming weeks to decide the Awards with an expanded jury including all members of the HKDA Executive Committee.  Award recipients will be announced during the 23rd Hong Kong Dance Awards Presentation & Gala Performance. (For the list of expert panelists together with all rules and procedures of the shortlisting and final ballot process, please visit the webpage of About Hong Kong Dance Awards.
