20th Hong Kong Dance Awards - Shortlist Announced
2 March 2018 - Hong Kong Dance Alliance (HKDA) is pleased to announce that 44 outstanding nominees have been shortlisted for the 20th Hong Kong Dance Awards (Full list here) . Award recipients will be announced during the 20th Hong Kong Dance Awards Presentation & Gala Performance, to be held on 20 April 2018 (Friday), 8pm at Kwai Tsing Theatre Auditorium.
The shortlist was determined by a ballot of expert panelists after reviewing all the nominations received this year in 13 award categories. A final ballot will be conducted in March, when the panels of dance professionals will be joined by all members of the HKDA Executive Committee to decide the Awards.
A new award for Emerging Choreographer will be introduced to recognize up and coming choreographic talent.
In addition to the awards for outstanding achievement in specific categories, the Distinguished Achievement Award for exceptional, long-term contribution to dance will be presented and the recipient announced shortly. Previous recipients of this award include Lau Siu-ming, Jean Wong, Willy Tsao, Helen Lai, Yuri Ng, Mui Cheuk-yin, Aaron Kwok and Jackie Chan.
Since 1999, the Hong Kong Dance Awards have celebrated outstanding achievement in the Hong Kong dance field and recognized artists and organizations for their contribution to the development of dance in Hong Kong.
For this special ceremony marking 20 years of the Awards, HKDA welcomes the renowned dancer and choreographer David Liu as the Artistic Director for this year’s Gala. Generously sponsored by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Gala gives dance lovers a unique opportunity to enjoy performances by a wide range of leading local dance artists in one sparkling evening which showcases the diversity and excellence of dance in Hong Kong. Among groups performing will be the Hong Kong Ballet, Hong Kong Dance Company, City Contemporary Dance Company and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
