The Hong Kong Dance Alliance honors four pillars of Hong Kong dance and presents the 10th Hong Kong Dance Awards - Distinguished Achievement Award to Mrs. Joan Campbell, Ms. Pearl Chan, Mrs. Christine Liao, and Mr. Stephen Kwok. Taken together, their contributions to dance, their dance work over the past more than fifty years, has made Hong Kong dance what it is today.
Arriving in Hong Kong in 1954 to teach the syllabi of Royal Academy of Dance at the Carol Bateman School of Dance, Mrs. Campbell continues today as Principal of the School and teacher of ensuing generations of dancers. She is the first dance teacher to introduce the syllabi of Royal Academy of Dance to Hong Kong. The syllabi became one of the ballet training standard syllabus in Hong Kong, and has had a profound influence on local ballet education. A founding member of the Hong Kong Ballet Group, Mrs. Campbell continues to serve on many important local and international dance boards and councils. Her efforts to promote the art of dance in Hong Kong brought her the 'President's' award from the Royal Academy of Dance, and the Haxell Cup from the Imperial Society for Teachers of Dance.
