Did you know!? I moved home just last month! The new place is enormous!

Did you know!? How surprised I was when I received the award!

Did you know!? I almost forgot my moves in a performance!

Did you know!? A member of my family passed away last month!

Did you know!? I came down with sickness recently!

Observing incorrect correctness by Kammy Lau

Do you agree that the human body is a work of art?

Every person has a different standard of beauty, one person’s aesthetic values might be worth nothing to another.
You can observe others, but they can also look at you.
Has it ever crossed your mind that, to aliens, the Earth might be just a museum?

WALL
We have fallen into a continually drowning swirl where we struggled to shout in silence.
Choreographer's Words

Despite walking on bustling streets, everyone's heart is distant and unreachable. The high wall is built inside their bodies, which is as tall as the skyscraper, is breaking the connection of people in this city. I dwell in a 120 square feet space, being silent and insignificant. There is a glass wall in the air that separates me, her and them. We have fallen into a continually drowning swirl where we struggled to shout in silence.

Emerging Choreographers 2015

2015.7.3 - 4

Hong Kong Dance Alliance Proudly Presents

“Emerging Choreographers 2015”

Turning the Spotlight on New Talent

“Where are the choreographers of the future?” It’s a vital question for the dance community in Hong Kong and as part of its mission to support and develop local artists, Hong Kong Dance Alliance (HKDA) is proud to present “Emerging Choreographers 2015”, the latest in a series which gives up-and-coming choreographers a platform to create and present new work. Out of 18 applicants our expert panel has selected three talented young choreographers: Cliff Huen Tin-yeung, Joseph Lee Wai-nang and Li De. Mentored by Daniel Yeung, one of Hong Kong’s most respected choreographers, each will create an original 25-minute dance work to be performed in July at the Kwai Tsing Theatre Black Box Theatre.

Different Visions
The three choreographers come from different backgrounds and their work will offer different dance styles and address a range of topics.  Cliff Huen’s trio Still Human asks if our busy life, with everything made easy by technology, has made us lose our innate ability to use our senses and recall primitive memories. In his duet The Other End, Joseph Lee tries to show us how every decision we make affects our lives. Li De’s trio Wonderful/Wild, inspired by a documentary about Shaolin Kung Fu, will transform traditional Kung Fu to reveal new aspects of the martial arts.

Dance lovers should not miss the chance to see these three intriguing and exciting works in one evening.

.. Mis ..

Misplace, Mistakes, Mis… Why obsess over them if the “mis-es” defines you?
The path of growing up is a lonely one. It always feels that nobody understands you and that there is no one to guide you; so by instinct, you improvise as you go along in life; yet who dares say they don’t have any regrets throughout their path? Until one day, you can finally let go of those “mis-es” that caught you up and realize that they are exactly those mis-es that mold the person you current are.

And that, my friend, is when you are grown up.

Choreographer: Michael Tong

Michael Tong was first introduced to dancing when he entered university at the age of 19 . He joined the modern dance society of CUHK and had participated in multiple intervarsity dance performances and competitions. It is not until 2009 has he received technical training in Studiodanz. He joined the Showbiz project co-organized by Studiodanz and Space team in 2010 and had participated in several commercial performances including dancing for beauty pageants and in music videos. Since 2011, he has been focusing mainly on modern and contemporary and had taken part in modern dance pieces such as Solo Act II choreographed by Pewan Chow.

Tong has always been passionate about choreography; inspired by the various dance styles he has been exposed to, he takes interest in different possibilities in movements and has created pieces ranging from lyrical jazz to more contemporary recently.  Thanks to REAL showcase, he finally has the opportunity to launch his first full length dance piece

1. WU Yi-san: Fluctuation
2. Chloe WONG: Timedrifting
3. LAI Tak-wai: Substitute

Dance Platform 05 (2005)

2005.11.5

Dance Platform 05 is a project for new choreographers. To ensure that the project achieved a certain standard, an open call for proposals was announced in dance journal/hk. After selection by a panel composed of Pewan CHOW, Stella LAU, and YU Pik Yim, respectively Lecturers of Modern Dance, Ballet and Chinese Dance of Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, 7 artists/groups were invited to participate in the Project: 5 Ding, Informal Space, Kelvin LAM, Cindy LEUNG, Cyrus HUI, Pinkey TANG, Chloe WONG.

Dance Platform emphasizes the continuous process of choreography. To achieve that, two informal closed showings of works-in-progress were held in September and October 2005, before the formal public performance. Guests, such as Maggi SIETSMA, Tom BROWN, John UTAN, PEI Chang Qing were invited. After each showing, there was a discussion section, in which the guests gave their comments and the participating artists were encouraged to discuss and exchange observations among themselves. This is a meaningful part of the project that ensures the participating artists work continuously, and the feedback and discussion are valuable to new artists. This give and take of feedback from peers and experts helped the choreographers to further refine their ideas and develop their works.
