‘New Force In Motion’ Series 2023: Ryan Lee, Kingsan Lo and Suen Nam

Once again, the Dance Alliance is grateful to be the presenter of New Force in Motion 2023. We've received a lot of submissions from talented local choreographers for this year's entry. The judges are truly captivated by the variety of genres and the uniqueness of each choreographer.

The Dance Alliance is excited to announce the three up-and-coming local choreographers chosen after rounds of assessments and auditions by a team of professional judges. Congratulations to Ryan Lee, Kingsan Lo and Suen Nam!

 

//About Ryan Lee, Kingsan Lo and Suen Nam//

Ryan Lee

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Ryan graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) in Dance with first-class honor, majoring in Chinese dance. Currently he is a dancer of the Hong Kong Dance Company. During his studies, he received numerous scholarships and awards in recognition of his academic merits and contributions to the school, such as the Director’s Award and HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund - Scholarships for Outstanding Performance. Ryan has been actively engaging in the art field, covering the area of performing, creating, art administration, music and education.

Ryan believes in the healing power of performing arts, and he is interested in exploring and expanding the creative boundaries of the art of Chinese dance.

Kingsan Lo

King is a professionally trained versatile artist specialised in body movement and energy harmonisation. Graduated in Contemporary dance from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and later received his Master degree from the London Contemporary Dance School, equipped him with a thorough and profound understanding in movements and expressions. His passion and interest in Eastern philosophies and spiritualities has attracts great teachers and masters to share the Ancient wisdoms and techniques with him. The opportunity of understanding Qi Gong and Wing Chun provides inspiration for King’s artistic development and one-of-his-kind self exploration and discovery techniques. He wishes to create an immersive theatre space for the audience to experience a transcendent journey. King believes that through his tailor-made move sets and mindfulness techniques, we would discover key of being grounded, centered and balanced that will lead to huge benefit to our mental and physical health, thus he had devoted his practice in personal discovery of one’s own body through movement and mindfulness.

Suen Nam

SuenNam is a member of the Hip Hop dance crews FlowRulerz & Pentaverse, and also a DJ. In recent years, he has been active in the field of theater dance creation, participating in various projects such as West Kowloon CClab, dance theater The Box 2.0, and Unlock Dance to be 2022. SuenNam hopes to use his years of training in street dance, as well as his creative ability in dance and movement, and his sense of music, to create more outstanding works.

2023 'New Force in Motion' New Series - Call for Choreography Proposal

 

Presented by the Hong Kong Dance Alliance, and sponsored by Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the 'New Force in Motion' Series in 2023 will continue to showcase the artistic ideas of emerging choreographers in Hong Kong in a practical format. Besides providing a professional platform and sponsorship to the new generation of choreographers, the Series also encourages the development of various dances genres in the local scene with an aim to spark creativity in choreography.

 

Throughout the years, the Series presented numerous talented choreographers including Joseph Lee, Terry Tsang and Tsang Wing Fai (2019) ; Chan Wai Lok, Sudhee Liao and Alice Ma (2020); Vivian Luk, Natalie Mak and Poon Chun Ho (2021)); Pang Chun, Kammy Lau, Duncan Tang (2022). Many of them have won awards at the annual Hong Kong Dance Awards, as well as being invited to conduct dance exchange and sharing in different countries.

  • Performance venue and production cost;
  • Production team, administrative and marketing support;
  • Rehearsal studio will be provided for each choreographer;
  • Recommendation and audition of dancers;
  • Artistic advisor(s)

Venue:                         Kwai Tsing Theatre, Black Box Theatre

Stage type:                  End-stage

Audience Capacity:     120 / performance

Length:                        20-25 minutes for each work

Number of dancers:    Maximum of 4 for each work

 

Eligibility

  1. Applicant must be a Hong Kong resident;
  2. Priority will be given to emerging choreographers;
  3. All dance genres are invited to apply;
  4. Applicant must have presented choreography publicly;
  5. The proposed choreography must not be presented in the public before;
  6. If the proposed choreography is a solo work, the choreographers would not be able to take part as the dancer

 

Interview

Applicant maybe required to attend an interview in early May 2023.
