Hong Kong Dance Alliance to Produce ‘New Force in Motion’ Series in 2017-18
30 June, 2017 – The upcoming edition of ‘New Force in Motion’ presented by Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will be produced by Hong Kong Dance Alliance (HKDA) with a double-bill of Rex Cheng and KT Yau on 8-10 September 2017 in the Black Box Theatre, Kwai Tsing Theatre.
‘New Force in Motion’ presents new dance works of emerging choreographers. This year, it aims to offer a professional platform for young choreographers to showcase choreography, encourage development, and stimulate creativity through artistic mentoring and collaborative research. With a shared vision for dance development, and to facilitate the professional production process, this will be the first time the HKDA to serve as the producer of the program.
Two young local choreographers, Rex Cheng and KT Yau, were selected by the LCSD Art Form Panel (Dance and Multi-Arts) from the applications it received.
Rex Cheng
Rex Cheng graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majoring in Chinese Dance and joined DanceArt HK as a full-time dancer after graduation. Currently, he works as a freelance dance artist, tutor of Tai Chi, Yoga and Pilates. In 2016, he performed in Human Internship by Justyne Li for Hong Kong Dance Alliance Springboard Showcase 2016 program, and The Rite of Spring by Dick Wong for Zuni Icosahedron.
During the past years, he has also presented his choreographic works, including Rehearsal, No.36, To Tear Up, To Gear Down, Bingo?!, On/Off? for CCDC Dance Centre Real Showcase and The Butcher for HKADC Grant for Emerging Artists.
KT Yau
KT Yau graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honors) degree, majoring in Contemporary Dance from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2013. She was a full-time dancer of Y-Space in 2013 and is now a freelance artist.
Recent performances include On & On & Turn Turn Turn for Y-space in 2015, Diffusion of the Silence in 2015, and Heaven Behind the Door in 2014 for the Hong Kong Arts Festival Hong Kong Jockey Club Contemporary Dance Series. In 2016, she studied in Israel with Vertigo Dance Company.
