Hong Kong Dance Awards Fellows World Première Works
26 April, Hong Kong – Two dance works by Hong Kong Dance Awards Fellowship recipients will be premièred at the 19th Hong Kong Dance Awards Presentation & Gala Performance.
The first-ever Hong Kong Dance Alliance (HKDA) Hong Kong Dance Awards Fellowship were awarded - Pak Wei-ming and Wayson Poon, to enable them to research and develop new dance works to showcase at the 19th Hong Kong Dance Awards Presentation & Gala Performance. The Fellowship aims to support dance development, further fulfilling the goal of celebrating dance achievements in Hong Kong, and recognize up-and-coming cutting edge choreographers.
Recipients were selected from Collaborative Creative Lab produced by HKDA in early 2017. The fellowships provided recipients financial support, artistic and administration assistance, and a showcase platform to continue their creative research and take ideas from inception to completion during February to May 2017. The Hong Kong Dance Awards Fellows are:
Pak Wei-ming, an independent choreographer and performing dance artist whose most recent choreography includes 900, Interpretation, and Wearing - Being Covered. In his new work, Toilet Pump, Pak slyly subverts notions about this common home appliance through exploration of rhythmic movements - using it to challenge dancers and our expectations.
Wayson Poon, a contemporary choreographer and artist who researches connectivity in dance, space, idea, and form. Recent choreographies include Fleeing by Night, Behind 3.0, and Untitled. Poon’s new work, Intersection, examines the connections between dancers through different movement textures, rhythmic qualities, chaos, stillness, imagination, and introspection.
