Creative Space Residency Compilation
 
 
 
This year the organizer, Hong Kong Dance Alliance, invited Mr.Tom Brown, Ms. Stella Lau, Mr. Jacky Yu and Ms.Yu Pik-yim as the selection panel. After a highly competitive selection process, two artists were chosen for Creative Space Residency 2016: Lam Po and Justyne Li. Additionally, the Alliance has commissioned Anh Ngoc Nguyen to create a work for Springboard Showcase. Beginning February, choreographers will choreograph and rehearse new works during a five-month residency at CCDC Dance Centre, the project’s venue partner.
 
Choreographers will conduct an Audition for prospective performers on 10 December. The project culminates in Springboard Showcase in June at Black Box Theatre, Kwai Tsing Theatre. 
 
Below are the biographies of the three artists:
 
 
Lam Po
LAM graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, School of Dance, Modern Dance Stream. During his study at the Academy, he had been awarded several scholarships, participated in the Tokyo International Dance Festival and performed with variety of dance groups. He was awarded a scholarship from the Asian Cultural Council to participate in the American Dance Festival in 2000 and joined City Contemporary Dance Company from 2001 to 2014. His choreography includes “Self-obsession” in CCDC’s 2003 programme “All of A Sud­den”, Dialogue at the 7th Guangdong Modern Dance Festival, “The moment I saw it” in Hong Kong Dance Alliance’s “Perfect Pair and Odd Couples” and “Reflections” in CCDC’s 2011 programme “Talk To Him”, “The Voice Inside” in CCDC’s 2013 Programme “It’s My Turn”. LAM received 2012 Hong Kong Dance Award “Outstanding Independent Dance” and “Outstanding Performance by Male Dancer” for his performance in The Moment I Saw It. Lam is currently a freelance dancer, choreographer and teacher.
 
 
Li Sze Yeung, Justyne
Li graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, School of Dance, Ballet and Modern Dance Stream. She is a former member of the Hong Kong Ballet and Tanz Graz (Austria), and was a soloist with Ballet Bremerhaven (Germany). Currently working as an independent dancer and choreographer, Li has established “Neo Dance HK” with Wong Tan Ki in 2010. Her recent choreographies include: The Trouble-maker’s Concerto; Galatea X; Present Absentee, a collaboration with Little Breath; What’s the Matter – Contemporary Dance Series, Hong Kong Arts Festival 2013. Galatea X received the Hong Kong Dance Award 2014 for Outstanding Choreography and Outstanding Performance by a Female Dancer.
Galatea & Pygmalion received the Hong Kong Dance Award 2011 for Outstanding Achievement in Independent Dance. Li was also nominated for Outstanding Performance in the same year. 
 
 
Nguyen Ngoc Anh
Anh trained in classical ballet at the Vietnamese Dance College before graduating with an honours distinction in 1998. Winning a full scholarship at the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts, he started his professional choreography career and won the third prize in the Vietnamese National Dance Competition in 2002 and the New British Choreography Bonnie Bird Award in 2005. Anh also won the Spotlight Award in the Critics’ Circle Dance Awards (Outstanding Male Artist) in 2008. Anh was appointed as a Resident Choreographer for Union Dance Company with his debut Two By Two in 2007 and has choreographed for Doreen Bird College from 2006-2010. He has worked with the Vietnamese Opera Theatre, Hong Kong/New York Dance Company, Les Ballets Persans, Wayne McGregor | Random Dance and Phoenix Dance Theatre.
